Mission Mexico: Supporting Education – Empowering Children

February 6, 2018

True to the core of Tickmill’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) where it encourages employee volunteerism, Tickmill actively supported the charitable initiative of one of its employees to help underprivileged children who do not have access to free education in Playa del Carmen, Mexico.

Keeping Kids in School

In a tourist city of 150,000 people, where most of them earn less than $10 per day, only 51% of primary students advance to high school since public high school in Mexico is not free.

The Group Chief Marketing Officer, Marilena Iakovou, in collaboration with the KKIS Project that provides financial support and community connections to local schools, embarked on a mission to provide school supplies to children whose families cannot afford the costs of public education and need them to work.

Help improving affordability and graduation rates

In direct response to this overwhelming need, Tickmill donated a substantial amount of money to buy school supplies for children in need, as education is a focal point for the firm’s CSR activities.

Tickmill’s representative visited the Cristo Ray primary and secondary school that the KKIS organisation has helped to build and donated the much-needed school supplies and educational books to the students.

Mrs. Iakovou had the opportunity to talk to school administrators and members of the KKIS Project about the needs of the school and put in place future ways to further support them.

The Group CMO commented on her experience: “I am grateful for the support of Tickmill in realising this fulfilling project. Every little help is important for these children, as it can make education affordable for them and give them the ability to achieve their goals. All children have a right to a minimum 12 years of free education and Tickmill is committed to fighting illiteracy in deprived areas of the world.”
